Behind The Valentino Fall 2013 Ad Campaign

Since Maria Grazi Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli took over, Valentino became much more rooted in history than when Mr. Garavani reigned his namesake fashion house. For their autumn/winter 2013 ad campaign, the design duo took inspiration from Flemish painters. To keep the duo theme going, they appointed Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin to shoot up-and-coming models such as Irina Kravchenko and Maud Welzen in their stunning pieces.

The portraits resemble The Girl With The Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer, whereas the fashion still lifes could be considered replicas, with the exception of the fabulous pearl-studded clutches and two-toned heels int the midst of flowers and skulls.
