Runway Review: Michael Kors Spring 2014

No one designs American sportswear quite as well as Michael Kors. The man is just this mega-brand spreading through the world like a fashion wildfire. His unique mix of luxury and classic design is irresistible for so many men and women around the world. Although never the one to move the boundaries of fashion, Kors did a Best Of collection of sorts.

After last season's color attack (electric blue and neon orange), Michael Kors decided to use a much lighter and breezier color palette for next spring - (inescapable) white, light grey, beige and sky blue. Actually, the entire collection felt very  light and easy to wear.

A thing that I've always appreciated when it comes to Mr. Kors is that he always does season appropriate collections. So, as expected, we were able to spot 50s pin-up inspired bathing suits (high wasted panties, daisies all over) and light, floral day-dresses in a variety of colors.

Well, this whole season appropriate thing went to a certain extent. I did an entire little article about summer furs (here it is), so you can imagine how excited I was when I saw fur stoles draped around the models' shoulders. I still stand by what I said - it's the chicest thing ever.

Some pieces shown definitely belong in Kors' hall of fame: classic trench coats (worn casually thrown over the shoulders, blogger style), menswear inspired silk shirts with oversized collars (trend alert!) and uber-luxe accessories such as large python clutches.

The eveningwear section also looked very vintage. The vibe I got was a 50s Hawaiian beach-to-red-carpet look. Quite fresh and youthful, although not particularly inovative (I love his eveningwear sparkly and sexy).

I have to applaud Mr. Kors for casting some legendary models in his show - Frankie Rayder, Karen Elson and Karolina Kurkova. The front row wasn't bad either, with stars like Katie Holmes and Kate Mara carefully picking their next red carpet look (Katie with the help of Marie Claire's Nina Garcia).

There's just something about Michael Kors that makes you instantly love him. I believe it's his sense of humor (if you've seen just one episode of Project Runway, you know what I'm talking about), as well as his ability to make you want to buy his clothes season after season...'cause who doesn't need another trenchcoat?
